Boiling River and Bison is a piece inspired by the Boiling River in Yellowstone. There was a time when I soaked in the magical, hot, sulfur-rich water that pours out of the mountainside and mixes with the Gardner River, creating the perfect temperature. I remember soaking for a while, then leaving only to find a herd of bison grazing on and around the trail. We just had to wait until they were ready to move on. Nature has a way of making you sit and practice patience. It's always an adventure. Along with the bison, I painted three plants that only grow in Yellowstone: Ross's Bentgrass, Yellowstone Sand Verbena, and Yellowstone Sulfur Wild Buckwheat. I love plants that stay strong to their roots and are unique to specific areas. I also painted Juniper and Sandhill cranes because they are magical, like the water, and native to the National Park.
