The Jewel Basin and backpacking adventures inspired this piece. I love picking Huckleberries in the Jewel. They are often plentiful. There was a time in the Jewel when I thought I had officially eaten too many Huckleberries. I felt the best high in my life. Full of deep purple juices and lots of mountainous air. I love the Jewel and felt my painting needed some Painted Lady Butterflies. They are feminine and strong and just seem perfect for the Jewel. I’ve heard that they fly up to 20 miles per hour. This reminds me of time and how it speeds by as we add those special life jewel moments to our hearts. I’ve included my favorite plants, the Huckleberry, Bear Grass, and Paintbrush.
